Carol Rio - Bio

 

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Carol Sant'Anna also known as Carol Rio – is a singer, composer, and percussionist who received musical background from her grandfather Edson Sant'Anna. Mr. Sant’Anna was a singer, composer, and iconic television broadcaster. He was the King of Carnival (King Momo, with the longest career in Brazilian Television, broadcasting at the Programa do Chacrinha from 1972 to 1982 with audiences that regularly reached over 51% of all televisions in the country. 

Carol Rio was raised to be a star performer at the large Samba Schools in Rio de Janeiro.

 

At the age of 15 (2001), Carol Rio began to study music and graduated in Popular Percussion at Escola de Música Villa Lobos in 2003. Carol Rio debuted at Marquês de Sapucaí Samba Parade, at age 16 (2002), with the first all-women drumming group. 

In the same year, Carol Rio started to study with masters from the Maracatu Nations of Baque Virado in RJ and Pernambuco until 2009.  

 

Carol Rio was a producer of CUFA – Central Unica das Favelas participating in of the production of Hutuz 2004.

 

Carol Rio is a Member of OMB, the Order of Musicians of Brazil – Professional Category  - since 2006 and a member of UBC (BRAZILIAN UNION OF COMPOSERS) since 2016.

 

Carol Rio has studied at UNI-RIO (University of Rio de Janeiro) in two courses: TEPEM – (theory and musical perception) between 2005 and 2008. She also studied at the Escola Portatil de Musica, which is at UNI-RIO (2009 to 2012) and is the largest Choro orchestra in the world.

 

Carol studied at CAL (Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras):

  • Interpretation for Cinema and TV (2005) with Fabio Barreto,  a distinguished director of Rede Globo 
  • Musical Theater with Mirna Rubin (2012).

 

In 2009, Carol Rio graduated in Production and Cultural Policy from Universidade Candido Mendes, Rio de Janeiro – Brazil

 

Carol Rio was the Music Producer of FESTLIP – International Festival of the Portuguese Language for 6 years (2005 to 2011).

 

Carol Rio did cultural research in Africa (2009), in Senegal with Grupo Gorée Afro Djembé with luthier Sidiki Kamara in Mali, Cape Verde,  participation in the “Há Mares Festival” in Matosinhos, Portugal alongside the singer, songwriter and former Minister of Culture of Cape Verde Mario Lucio.

 

Carol Rio was the Music Producer of “Encontros Culturais da Lingua Portuguesa” promoted by the Ministery Of Culture Of Brazil in 2011.

 

Carol Rio was the music director, executive producer and manager of marketing at ‘Grupo Matriz’ that had more than ten music stage places in Rio de Janeiro. She managed the schedule of a few of those places, including Teatro Odisseia, where she promoted during 3 follow years a weekly party called – “FORROOTS” with a special edition in 2017 to celebrate 10 years of the creation of her party.

 

In 2017, she created her own brand of clothes to celebrate the Forro Culture ‘Reinado Coroa’ registered in Brazil it is an e-commerce that you can also meet available in the main Forro festivals around the world.

 

After the recent change of her artistic name (Carol Sant'Anna to Carol Rio) she released an EP on all digital platforms and youtube in November 2019.  She promote a party to release her album (2020) at “Imperator – Cento Cultural Joao Nogueira” a place of the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil .

 

In 2021 Carol Rio studied (internship) at ITEC AUDIO STUDIO (USA). She completed the course of Mixing and Mastering” with Wilkis Figereo.
